A few interesting side notes: Martha & The Vandellas' "Heatwave" is on 2 different discs, 1 is mono, a slightly different version is stereo; Frank Wilson's very rare '65 "Do I Love You" is included (no release, demos pressed, all but 2 were destroyed - I never heard before, but a great song); nice to have Gloria Jones' B-side "Tainted Love /5(). A pair of sweet funky fusion gems from Mark Colby – back to back on a single CD! Serpentine Fire is an overlooked gem from Bob James' Tappan Zee empire of the 70s – that label that provided the perfect platform for artists to grow a bit more after the CTI years! Reply

The singles from Youthquake include the international smash “You Spin Me Round (Like a Record)” which hit #1 in the UK and #11 in the US, “Lover Come Back to Me” (#11 UK, #75 US), “In Too Deep” (#14 UK) which is not my fave: it’s on the smooth-pop end of new wave and has not aged well, and “My Heart Goes Bang” (#23 UK, #15 US. Eurythmics “Love Is a Stranger” 12″ single. “Love Is a Stranger” was the third single from the band’s January album Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This) and it’s one of my all-time favorites from the synthpop/new wave duo. First released as a single in November ‘82, it did relatively poorly (it was their 5th single to date, hitting #54 in the UK. Reply

Review: During the British jazz-dance scene's late '70s and early '80s boom, there were few DJs that the dancers loved more than Colin Curtis. Still DJing today after 50 years behind the decks, Curtis was a natural choice to put together Z Records' first compilation dedicated to jazz-dance, jazz-funk and fusion sounds. Reply
