Unwieldy and violent drums open this record, "El Pintor" feels like a return to form for Interpol after they self titled album got really bad criticism and reviews, but well, once again their effort to make post-punk is shown again in this album, but it reached a new point, catching the influence of surfrock, most of the tracks here have lyrics refering the sea or sea, besides being one of the singer's hobbies. Sep 08,  · The title to the fifth album, El Pintor, is an anagram of “Interpol,” and the first few album tracks “All the Rage Back Home”, “My Desire” and “Anywhere” follow the arena-style piercing guitar work of Daniel Kessler from the third album, Our Love to Admire (see “Rest My Chemistry,” "Mammoth" and “Heinrich Maneuver”) that rocks the festival crowd, but Paul Banks always /5(). El Pintor was a stark contrast to Interpol's meandering previous releases, ’s difficult and morose major-label fumble Our Love to Admire and ’s insular, tuneless self-titled album. After those disappointments, there was a palpable sense that the one time critical darlings had to bring the heat with whatever they released after, and El Pintor delivered. Reply

This LP is a straight line down the path of general mediocrity. A few songs such as "Anywhere" and "My Blue Supreme" are exceptional, but the album as a whole stifles. The production has a very narrow sound stage and the sonic dynamics are missing. Also, it is to be noted that all of the bass lines are boring, and superficial. Reply
